Christie tells Rowan grads hard work is key

5-16-14

GLASSBORO, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie says that willingness to work hard is the key to a successful life.

The governor and possible 2016 Republican presidential candidate gave the commencement speech Friday at southern New Jersey’s Rowan University.

He told the 2,500 graduates that his grandmother, who was born on a boat from Sicily to the United States and was not educated past middle school, was his role model in hard work.

Christie received an honorary degree at Rowan along with state Senate President Steve Sweeney and Sen. Donald Norcross, both Democrats.

The three were recognized for their championing a restructuring New Jersey’s higher education system that resulted in Rowan getting state designation as a research university.
