2-25-14

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie is seeking to expand mandatory drug courts for nonviolent drug offenders.

The concept has been a favorite of the Republican governor.

He’s including $4.5 million in his $34.3 billion state budget proposal to expand the courts. He laid out his overall budget proposal in a speech to state lawmakers on Tuesday.

The governor is also calling for the state to fund for substance-abuse treatment programs that also help recovering addicts find or keep jobs.
