Asbury Park Press moving headquarters

11-7-13

NEPTUNE, N.J. (AP) — The Asbury Park Press is moving about 400 employees to smaller space across a highway from the building it has called home since 1985.

The newspaper plans to occupy the first two floors of an office building in Neptune by the end of the first quarter or early second quarter of 2014.

The newspaper (http://on.app.com/17a9dqW ) says president and publisher Thomas Donovan on Wednesday told employees the new space is better suited for a company that is smaller and making the transition to digital media.

The move includes a design studio that helps produce the Press and 14 other newspapers that are owned by McLean, Va.-based Gannett Co. Inc.

Donovan also said a deal to sell the newspaper’s headquarters is in the works. He declined to disclose the prospective buyer.
