PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — A judge has delayed arraignment for a Paterson mayoral candidate and his wife.
Councilman Rigo Rodriguez and his wife were due in court Thursday to be arraigned on charges they submitted ballots as votes for people who didn’t see the ballots when he ran for re-election in 2010. Prosecutors say the couple told campaign workers to lie to authorities who were investigating voter fraud allegations.
The Record (http://bit.ly/SHdVMq ) reports Rodriguez’s attorney requested more time to prepare before representing his client in court.
The arraignment would have taken place a few days before Tuesday’s mayoral election.
The hearing has been rescheduled for May 20.
