PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — Three men were captured after a police pursuit in northern New Jersey ended in a fiery crash.
State police tell The Record (http://bit.ly/S4URac) that troopers working a drunken driving patrol on I-80 East in Essex County attempted to stop a car around 7:15 a.m. Saturday, but the driver refused to stop. A brief pursuit followed, but it was ended for safety reasons after the driver got onto Route 46 East.
Surrounding police departments were notified about the vehicle, and it was soon spotted on Route 46 by Clifton officers. They pursued the car onto Route 20 in Paterson, where it crashed around 7:30 a.m. near the ramp onto Route 4 and caught fire.
The car’s two passengers tried to run away but were caught after a brief chase.
