BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana authorities say two men have been arrested for leaving cylinders that contained poisonous gases at a warehouse in Roanoke.
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality says 62-year-old George L. Ryals III, of Newton, New Jersey, was booked Thursday with felony illegal disposal of harmful substances. Fifty-five-year-old Michael Anaker, of Sulphur, was arrested on the same charge last week.
DEQ’s Jean Kelly says Ryals is president of Stillwater Consultants. Kelly says the company, Ryals and Anaker were evicted by the Crop Production Services warehouse in June 2009 for failure to pay rent.
She says warehouse representatives found more than 500 gas cylinders that had been abandoned.
State police say the cylinders contained hazardous chemicals, including chlorine, arsenic pentafluoride and hydrogen cyanide.
It was unclear whether Ryals and Anaker have attorneys.
