A varietal that is the most widely planted grape in Piedmont, Italy, Barbera has been a “small plot” experiment for us. A true vineyard-made wine with attention to every growing detail has yielded a wine of incredible fruit finesse integrated with a soft, silky tannin structure that we believe competes with the finest of its Italian ancestors.
A true vineyard-made wine with attention to every farming detail has allowed us to release a wine that shows true varietal character reminiscent of its Italian ancestors. Traditionally, Barbera is the last grape harvested each year. Our grapes were hand-harvested the first week of November 2011.
Lightly crushed, the wine fermented on the skins in small batches of open top white oak fermenters for 14 days. Pressing was followed by aging in the finest French oak barrels undisturbed for 18 months. The results, a wine of incredible fruit finesse integrated with a silky tannin structure. Enjoy with any northern Italian dishes especially pasta in a cream sauce.
We will offer wine tastings and cellar tours throughout the day for $10 per person, which includes samples of our award-winning wines paired with light appetizers. As part of your tasting experience, we will pair the 2011 Barbera with sliced beef tenderloin on a French baguette with a touch of horseradish cream sauce.
One of the East Coast’s most award winning wineries, Alba Vineyard is nestled amongst the rolling hills of Warren County, New Jersey, two miles east of the Delaware River and historic Bucks County, Pennsylvania in the beautiful Musconetcong Valley. The winery and tasting room are housed in a historic 1805-converted stone barn, which features an impressive wood tasting bar, rustic stonewalls, and old oak beams.
